Trinity Grammar School offers a variety of opportunities for students to engage with music. For example, wind instruments, percussions, theory, choirs, various string instruments and much more. The School also offers many ensembles that perform regularly, such as Chapel Band, Trinity Singers and orchestras.
Being part of an ensemble or an orchestra is really enjoyable because you can work as a team and also make lots of new friends. There are many music events and great opportunities for students to perform. These events have allowed me to be much more confident and passionate about music.
The School also has various competitions for Preparatory, Junior and Middle and Senior School students. This is a great opportunity for all students to get together to perform in front of audiences. Performing is a really important part of our music experience. At Trinity, one of the subjects I enjoy most is Music because I find that it allows me to see things differently and helps me to connect with my emotions. Music is amazing because it is a universal language that everyone can understand.
I started Cello lessons in Year 1 and then Piano and Theory lessons in Year 2. I started with not knowing how to read music and progressed slowly to be able to read music confidently. I learnt theory behind music, the composers, the styles and importantly, the meaning of the music. This allows me to express myself through music. I am grateful to all the wonderful teachers who put endless effort in helping us and for putting up with us at times when we don't do correct rhythm, play wrong dynamics or even play an incorrect note!
Overall, I am thankful to Trinity Grammar School for providing us with a leading music programme. I am very fortunate to be part of this wonderful opportunity that Trinity Grammar School offers.
For over a hundred years Trinity Grammar School has educated boys in mind, body and spirit. Our mission is to provide a thoroughly Christian education for boys from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12, imparting knowledge and understanding of the world we live in, and recognising the importance of spiritual qualities in every sphere of learning.
Trinity is renowned for its encouragement of music. Music is an essential element of Trinity’s curriculum, with most boys at some stage, learning a musical instrument and engaging in group musical activity; such as choir, orchestra, band or ensemble, or a musical stage production. We take creative and performing arts seriously.
The Music Department has one of the most dynamic and impressive performance programmes in Australia and, in terms of student participation, is one of the most comprehensive. Commitment of students and staff to achieving excellence in performance has earned them an impressive reputation.
