The Trinity difference: providing national recognition in leadership

Trinity Grammar School has embarked on an academic initiative which offers new learning opportunities for boys, by extending and rewarding their leadership qualities through the Australian Army Cadets.

The leadership course, owned and delivered by Trinity Grammar School, aims to accredit students with a nationally recognised Certificate II in Leadership Through Cadets qualification. Trinity offers this course as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO Code 91644), and the course is the only one of its kind in Australia. The course is delivered to boys from Years 8 to 10 who are enrolled in Cadets, and is taught and assessed as a supplement to normal Cadet activities. To achieve the qualification, Trinity Cadets must demonstrate competency in 12 core units and eight elective units.

Leadership Through Cadets is designed to enable boys to acquire a range of technical, practical, personal and organisational skills associated with leadership. Trinity Grammar School's Director of Vocational Education and RTO Manager (Careers Education) Dr Frederick Osman said, "The skills associated with leadership are highly valued in the workplace and in society in general. Potentially the course will afford them an advantage in the competitive quest for scholarships and jobs, but more importantly will equip them with vital life skills."

The Leadership Through Cadets course includes the following qualifications:

Year 8 - Working towards a Statement of Attainment
Year 9 - Statement of Attainment in Leadership Through Cadets
Year 10 - Certificate II in Leadership Through Cadets.

The Cadet Unit at Trinity Grammar School is the largest co-curricular activity offered by the School, with approximately 450 boys involved from Year 8. The Cadet experience facilitates the maturing process whereby young boys become young men.

As a Registered Training Organisation (RTO Code 91644), Trinity offers a unique vocational pathway, with VET Certificate II courses in Construction Pathways, Electrotechnology and Hospitality and Certificate III courses in Information Digital Media Technology and Entertainment.
